On a 2,000-unit private label order, one quote came in at $10.85 per unit with every fee listed upfront. The other quote was $9.40 per unit plus $450 artwork, $200 color matching, $1,200 custom cartons, $250 barcode setup, and $750 pre-production approval fee. Total for the cheap quote: $21,650. The transparent quote: $21,700. We saved $50 and added 30 days of lead time.
So glad we didn't accept a free tooling offer from another candidate on that project. Almost went with it. (Turns out the free tooling was included in the MOQ—just separated into handling and setup fees that didn't exist on the transparent quote.)

What I mean is, if a driver fails in year two and you're sending an electrician to a ceiling, the $0.80 you saved becomes a $140 line item on a warranty claim. When I compare quotes, I assume a 2-4% first-year failure rate for unnamed drivers and 0.5-1% for a named commercial driver. Adjust based on your own experience.
3. Check certifications against your destination market. A driver can have UL approval for the US but not the specific European standard your project needs.
